Widespread Life Threatening Power Outages Continue

FEBRUARY 11TH 2026

Residents of Kyiv have electricity for 1 to 2 1/2 hours a day; those are the lucky ones. Many residents in high rise buildings are entirely without utilities: no heat, power or water.   With frigid temperature inside the homes (37 degrees), and repairs expected to take weeks, thousands of people have been forced to leave; many buildings sit empty. Some went to stay with friends or family outside of the city, while those less fortunate had to move into crowded temporary living quarters with strangers, desperate for warmth and shelter.

Many businesses in Kyiv have been substantially damaged by the attacks on the utility infrastructure as well. Expensive generators were struck by drones, leading to flooding and other problems. In the capital city and other urban areas, the power infrastructure dates back many decades, so heat is generated at power plants before being distributed; when these facilities are targeted many residential blocks are impacted. A long power outage with freezing temperatures can cause underground heating pipes to burst. Over the past week alone, the country was targeted with more than 2,000 strike drones, 1,200 guided aerial bombs, and 116 missiles of various types.

Our emergency winter assistance program continues in Kyiv and around the country. We are giving people portable heaters, batteries, warm clothing, food, and financial support. In more rural areas, including Bila Tserkva and others, we are delivering firewood to the rural areas and helping cover expensive heating bills. We are grateful to our donors who continue to support our life saving efforts. Together we save lives and restore hope.
