Widespread Attacks Leave Seven People Dead Including Two Children

OCTOBER 22ND 2025

In the last day, Ukraine has suffered many tragedies with widespread attacks resulting in the deaths of at least seven people, including two children, and serious injuries to many others. In Kharkiv, the second largest city, a kindergarten was hit; children were among the 27 people wounded and a 40 year old man died. In the village of Pohreby, just north of Kyiv, a 36-year-old woman, a six-month-old baby, and a 12-year-old girl died when their house was set ablaze from an airstrike. A man from the village also died.

The City of Chernihiv suffered a total blackout after a large-scale missile and drone strike, with hundreds of thousands of people affected. In the larger region, four people were killed in the town of Novhorod-Siverskyi, and 10 others were injured including a 10-year-old girl. Energy supplies, the rail network, homes and businesses were all impacted, leading to a loss of power to water pumping stations. Residents have been told to stock up on bottled water for now.

Our work in Ukraine has never been more important as we continue to provide assistance to people across the country. In addition to ensuring adequate food, medical care, and critical social services, we are also providing temporary shelter and financial assistance. We are grateful to all of our generous donors who make it possible and for the tireless efforts by our staff and volunteers to serve people very much in need. Together we save lives and restore hope.
