Ukrainian Jews Celebrate Lag B'Omer

MAY 5TH 2026

On this special day between Passover and Shavuot, Jews all across Ukraine enjoyed bonfires, parades, and picnics, with music and fun activities. Dozens of cities and villages hosted a variety of events, for children and adults, consistent with long standing tradition in the country.

It was an honor for us to support the festivities, including those hosted by the Dnipro Jewish community, by providing hundreds of caps, bottles of water, and sweet sticks, as well as holiday banners, and colorful balloons. The local parade and concert was made possible thanks to significant effort by children and teens. Youngsters who are part of the local youth groups assembled paper caps with Lag B’Omer symbols, and members of the teen program EnerJew, along with students of the STARS program, affixed special labels to water bottles, preparing them for distribution at the large-scale community events.

“Such collaborative work, involving children, teenagers, and students, not only helps prepare the holiday properly but also fosters in the participants a sense of responsibility, belonging, and understanding of how large community events are created,” said Rabbi Reuven Kaminezki. “We deeply appreciate the support from Jewish Relief Network Ukraine and the tremendous assistance this organization provides in implementing the programs of the Dnipro Jewish Community, as well as the opportunity to prepare such large-scale events together, uniting the entire community under the leadership of the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro, Shmuel Kaminezki.”

Together we save lives and restore hope.
