EnerJew has been a prominent youth movement for Jews living in Eastern European countries (including Ukraine) for many years. During the war, the program has taken on even greater significance for the thousands of Ukrainian teens who have been out of school, separated from friends and family, displaced from their homes, and even, tragically, experienced the loss of loved ones. Regular club meetings provide opportunities for fellowship, support and counseling, as well as fun and relaxation. Special events including weekend retreats, bar/bat mitzvah celebrations, and holiday programs.
This year began with a flurry of activities that combined Jewish tradition with modern culture. EnerJew’s leadership team created a special toolkit featuring themed games, decorations, and visuals. Local coordinators adapted these materials to match the spirit of their communities, resulting in wonderful celebrations across the region, including in many cities in Ukraine.
In Kropyvnytskyi, for example, youth group participants wrote letters to their future selves; in Kamianske the teens enjoyed a Minecraft-inspired photo zone. In Dnipro, a quest activity was paired with baking pomegranate-shaped buns in honor of Rosh Hashanah. And in Kyiv, the youth created fortune cookies with their own personal messages.
Many new young adults have joined EnerJew this year, thanks to the outstanding work of local leaders and coordinators. Since its founding in 2013, EnerJew has become a transformative force in Jewish life across Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. By promoting Jewish identity, youth activism, and leadership, the movement has empowered more than 14,000 graduates to reconnect with their heritage. Today, EnerJew operates 73 branches in 10 countries, engaging thousands of Jewish teenagers and shaping the next generation of Jewish community leaders. We are pleased to lend support to this organization that continues to serve as a lifeline for thousands of teens in Ukraine. Together we save lives and restore hope.
