Ukraine’s Crisis Weary Jews Face New Year

SEPTEMBER 25TH 2024

As Jews around the world stock up on apples, honey and brisket in advance of Rosh Hashanah, Jews in Ukraine prepare for their third New Year under sirens, airstrikes and power outages. More and more people find themselves facing great economic hardships due to the ongoing crisis, they are in need of help.

Thanks to our partners and supporters, we are stepping up efforts to ensure that everyone has the means to mark Rosh Hashanah, as well as Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah, with a table full of food and all of the ceremonial items.

Trucks are arriving in cities, towns and villages across the country, delivering gift boxes and food parcels: honey cakes and cookies, jars of honey, calendars, and holiday guides along with enough food to ensure no one will go hungry. Now more than ever it is important to remind all members of the Jewish community that they are not alone and not forgotten.

In addition to providing nourishment and ceremonial items, local rabbis, staff and volunteers are working with families to ensure their emotional and spiritual needs are met as well. And through a dedicated matching campaign we are helping the orphanages from Odessa and Zhitomir make the holidays extra special, with new clothes and other treats for the children.

We hope the New Year will bring peace in Ukraine, and Israel and around the world. With your help we save lives and restore hope.

Together, we Save Lives and Restore Hope!
