Tragedy Strikes the Jewish Community of Odessa

JUNE 9TH 2025

Tragically, another Jewish soldier has fallen in service of his country. Tzvi-Hirsch (Grisha) Zvergzde, from Odessa, was the third Jewish soldier to die in the last two weeks.

Tsvi Hirsch, was a graduate of the Or Avner Jewish school in Odessa:

“Our hearts ache for Tsvi Hirsch, may his memory be a blessing,” eulogized Avraham Wolff, Chief Rabbi of Odessa and Southern Ukraine.

“He was a child raised among us – in the Jewish community. A child who lived a life of tradition and community; he went out to defend his land and his brothers with his own body. He gave his life with true devotion – as a Ukrainian soldier and a proud Jew.”

Rabbi Wolff expressed condolence on behalf of the entire community:

“We will always remember him with love and sorrow. The entire community is mourning, praying for his soul, and embracing his family during this painful time.”

Zvergzde is survived by his wife, Anastasia, his children, his mother, Yevgenia Yitzhakovna, and his sisters.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Zvergzde family and the Jewish community of Odessa.

Together we Save Lives and Restore Hope!
