The Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters (JBBS) of in Dnipro provides much needed support to the children of that community. JBBS provides a wonderful and safe environment filled with friendship, encouragement, and support. They give children opportunities to experience new things and learn to trust others. In addition to hosting fun and interesting activities, JBBS helps children learn about themselves and others, make connections, and gain self-confidence.
This past week, JBBS participants were treated to a special event with horses and ponies. The day began with the children tentatively and cautiously touching the animals, and ended with horseback rides and feeding. The children were excited but also somewhat fearful about interacting with the horses; the event helped them learn to overcome their fears.
The horses and ponies program exceeded expectations, with many children daring to try new things despite their misgivings. The kids enjoyed spending time together, socializing with friends, and sharing the excitement of their new experiences.
“It is important that children have a space in which they can take a break from daily anxieties, feel safe, learn to trust, and gain positive experience of interaction. We do not expect that one gathering will resolve all difficulties. But we believe that from these moments that important changes begin: a child dares to touch a horse, to sit astride, to try something for the first time, and to feel: ‘I can!’ This is how self-confidence, openness to the world, and readiness to overcome new challenges gradually grow,” said Tatyana Kaplunskaya, director of the JBBS project. She thanked the Mustang Equestrian Club for its hospitality and making the event a big success.
We are proud to lend support to the Jewish community of Dnipro. Together we save lives and restore hope.
