During the holiday of Sukkot, the Jewish community of Vinnytsia received a new Torah scroll donated by the Jewish community of Dnipro, coordinated by Dnipro's Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kamenizki. A celebration was held in honor of the generous gift, and the scroll was carried in a procession through the streets with torches, music, singing, and dancing.
Several Rabbis from other parts of the country joined the celebration, including Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm, Chief Rabbi of Zhytomyr and Western Ukraine, who offered words of encouragement to the Vinnytsia Jews, and particularly to families who have been displaced from other regions. Members of the Jewish communities of Zhytomyr and Berdichev, also traveled to Vinnytsia to share in the celebration.
Chief Rabbi of Vinnytsia, Shaul Horowitz spoke to the guests: “The Torah, the Holy One, blessed be He, and the Jewish people are one,” emphasizing the enduring bond between the Jewish people, their faith, and the Torah.
The celebration continued with the mitzvah of the Four Species, followed by a festive meal in the community’s large sukkah. Each guest received a personal souvenir — a piece of fabric from the material used to make the Torah scroll’s cover — as a lasting memento of the special occasion.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
