More than 2,000 Ukrainian children are enjoying summer camps this year. Many parents have joined their children for a separate program, as they too are in desperate need of a break from the ongoing crisis.
Jewish summer camps have been a tradition in Ukraine for decades, providing kids with an opportunity to learn about and connect with their Jewish heritage and community. Over the past 4 summers, the camps have taken on much greater significance, offering children a brief respite from the trauma of war. In addition to the usual fun-filled daily schedule of outdoor recreation, arts and crafts, singing, and other activities, the camps have also provided extensive emotional and mental health support. Camp leaders and counselors do an outstanding job creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere, where kids bond with their peers and the staff, while professional treatment providers offer individual and group sessions for those who need additional support.
We host camps in several locations to allow as many children as possible to attend one or more sessions. Over the past four years, we have seen an enormous impact on children who enjoy a week or two of “normalcy”—something that is becoming a distant memory for many.
We are deeply grateful to our generous donors who have made the camps possible once again. Together we save lives and restore hope.
