Jewish camps have long been an important part of summer for families in the United States and throughout the world. In Ukraine, these camps have taken on greater significance over the past few years, particularly for children who have lost loved ones and/or had to flee their homes.
For the past 4 years, despite the many challenges associated with the ongoing conflict, we have found a way to bring thousands of kids to camp, both day and overnight camps. Some of the camps also offer programs for parents who are in desperate need of a respite from the continued crisis.
Safety at the camps is a top priority, as the threat of attack is ever present. Each camp is equipped with shelters, and the children are trained and reminded of the many safety protocols in place. Campers are under the constant supervision of trained staff who provide psychological support in addition to directing activities.
The camps offer a mix of recreational activities (indoors and out), educational opportunities, and time for fun and relaxation. The camp leaders and staff are deeply committed to helping each child process trauma, manage stress, and begin to heal, emotionally and spiritually.
The Jewish summer camps in Ukraine offer kids a place to laugh, learn, build friendships, and relax. Children are provided transportation, safe and secure facilities, nourishing meals, and emotional comfort that is so desperately needed.
We are grateful to the many supporters around the world who make the camps possible, and to the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to make them a success. Together we save lives and restore hope.
