Spring has arrived in Ukraine, bringing much needed warmth and light after an historically cold and dark winter. Sadly, the daily attacks continue, causing fear and anxiety for millions of people. Despite the reality of the continued crisis, many families find a way to enjoy the natural beauty of their country.
Mountains, valleys, and city alleys are covered with blooming flowers, from magnolias, crocuses and cherry blossoms in Kyiv and Uzhhorod, to Sakura blossoms in Transcarpathia. Mykolaiv boasts the largest fields of wild orchids in Europe, and the waterfalls in the Carpathian region are stunning. The tulip fields in Chernivtsi include bright rows of red, yellow, pink, and white tulips, reminiscent of Dutch fields. And Ternopil and other cities have ancient castles and beautiful architectural structures that showcase the heritage of Ukraine.
Unfortunately, the tourists who used to flock to the country to visit the botanical gardens in Kyiv or hike the mountains in Carpathia are no longer coming, but local residents get out and enjoy the beauty of their country when they can. We continue to do all we can to support the thousands of Jews in Ukraine who have endured much suffering and trauma. We hope that the Spring weather will help lift their spirits and reenergize their souls.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
