School is out for the summer in Ukraine, after “Last Bell" celebrations were held throughout the country. The annual event for children and their parents is a tradition in Ukraine, formally closing the academic year and sending the kids off for summer break.
In Odessa, Rabbi Avraham Wolff wished students at the Jewish school a joyful summer and encouraged them to cherish every moment of their summer break. He thanked the dedicated teachers who supported the students through a difficult and challenging year.
Israel’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Michael Brodsky was a special guest at the Odessa ceremony. He congratulated all the students and teachers on completing the school year, and he specifically addressed graduates as they enter the next chapter of their lives.
The ceremony in Odessa included an especially poignant moment when the graduates came to the stage, one by one, with symbolic suitcases filled with everything they were taking from their school years: knowledge, Jewish values, experiences, friendships, and memories. The graduates also made remarks, expressing their gratitude to the parents, teachers, mentors, and friends who helped guide them along the way.
At Last Bell celebrations across Ukraine, parents, students and teachers exchanged warm wishes for a healthy, safe, and joyful summer, and hope that the next school year will be filled with peace.
In September, schools will reopen and students will be welcomed back to their classrooms, ready for another year of learning, growth, and achievement.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
