Over the past couple of years, we have helped thousands of people return to their homes that had been damaged by rockets, drones, and missiles. Everyday in cities across Ukraine, the impact from airstrikes blow out windows and doors, and cause other significant damage to apartments, in many cases making the dwellings uninhabitable. Families who are already struggling to make ends meet are forced to relocate until costly repairs are made, expenses most people cannot afford.
The glass glazing project we undertook in late 2022 and 2023 has been highly effective in protecting windows and doors from shattering when explosions occur nearby. But our efforts are no match for the massive and unrelenting air attacks on Kyiv and other cities where residential buildings have been badly damaged, sometimes more than once.
Our local leaders, staff, and volunteers work closely with all the Jewish communities to understand people’s needs and render assistance, quickly and effectively. Home repairs have been a top priority, as we work to ensure people can safely return to their homes to celebrate the High Holidays and the start of the new school year.
In Mykolaiv, for $312 we were able to repair all four windows that were blown out in Mrs. Fisher’s apartment, leaving her with no barrier to the outside. In Kyiv, the windows and door in Ms. Mazur’s apartment were destroyed, leaving the single mother without a safe home for her children; her expression of gratitude was one of thousands of letters we received from people who greatly appreciate the assistance we provide. In Kryvyi Rih, the Federov family watched as their home sustained significant damage when an air strike hit a building nearby. Fortunately, no one was hurt and we were able to repair all the broken windows and doors.
We look forward to the day when people in Ukraine can be safe in their homes and no longer need our assistance to make critical repairs. We are grateful to our generous donors and hard working staff who continue to provide much needed aid. Together we save lives and restore hope.
