Many senior citizens in Kyiv and other cities struggle with isolation and loneliness, as families have had to separate and move in order to survive. They come to our soup kitchens to nourish their souls as well as their bodies. Grandparents gather around big tables, to enjoy a hot meal, hug old friends, share news, and even laugh a bit.

In Khmelnystskyi, the soup kitchen cooks take extra care to ensure the food looks and tastes homemade, reminding the seniors of a different time when their lives were more peaceful and relaxed.

In addition to providing meals to ensure the seniors have adequate nutrition, our staff and volunteers attend to other important needs including medicine and medical care. In Sumy, Kropyvnitskyi, and communities throughout Ukraine the country, medications are distributed to people with no means to pay for these critical items.

The regularity with which we provide support is particularly important for older individuals, who count on us to help with many aspects of daily living. We establish a consistent and reliable schedule of care, to people in Kyiv, Kropyvnytskyi and all the communities we serve, creating certainty and predictability during a time of great turmoil and change. The ongoing crisis has left many seniors in a constant state of fear and anxiety--the regular visits from our staff and volunteers are essential to address the many emotional challenges they face.

We are grateful for the tireless efforts of our leaders, staff, and volunteers who live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Ukraine, providing consistent excellent care and support to people in need, including thousands of senior citizens. We are also grateful to our generous donors who fund these efforts; without them the work would not be possible. Together we save lives and restore hope.
