In Kyiv, Ukraine, the temperatures at night are in the 40s (Fahrenheit) and next week they will drop down to the 30s; other parts of the country are colder. People struggle to stay warm, as the heat and hot water are sporadic, at best. Emergency power cuts are again being implemented as a result of significant damage to the country's energy system. Specifically, gas production has been severely limiting, plunging major cities including Kyiv into periods of darkness and cold. As of the morning of October 27, emergency outage schedules are in effect in Kyiv, Poltava, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr and Kirovohrad. Additionally, consumers in several other regions, including Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk, are without power as a result of new air strikes on energy facilities.
The aid we distribute and services we provide are more important than ever, as the people of Ukraine brace for another winter living under martial law. In addition to distributing food, clothing, and essential household items, we assist with repairs to homes and fuel for operating of industrial generators we installed. It’s hard to imagine the stress, fear, anxiety, and exhaustion that permeates daily life for the men and women of Ukraine. We hope and pray for better days ahead, and we will continue to provide support to all those in need. Together we save lives and restore hope.
