As the crisis in Ukraine continues, in its 1,175th day, so does the suffering amongst the people. The need for food, shelter, medical care, and other basic services is immense, as women struggle to support their families while the men are on the front lines. We work with local leaders, staff, and volunteers to address critical needs and provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to more than 50,000 people all across Ukraine.
Spring finally arrived in the country, bringing sunshine and warmth from Kharkiv to Lviv, and Kyiv to Odessa. The firewood, fuel vouchers, small heaters, and blankets we distributed ensured people survived the cold and treacherous winters. During the frequent and extended power outages, our industrial generators created warm and safe gathering places in community centers and schools. Hot meal deliveries sustained the elderly and disabled, and food parcels nourished children and their parents. We gave out tens of thousands of pairs of glasses, sharing them with other charitable organizations who serve communities throughout Ukraine. Medical and mental health care was arranged for children and adults, including dental and vision appointments. The educational and spiritual programs we offered, including Sunday school classes and large celebrations for Hanukkah, Purim and Passover, broke attendance records everywhere, bolstering the mood and outlook of thousands of Ukrainian Jews.
In the weeks ahead, we will bring joy to families through our Shavuot holiday gift packages filled with cheese, ice cream, cookies, and cakes. We are preparing to host thousands of kids and their families for summer day-- and overnight camps. And we will continue to assist Internally Displaced People with their many needs including housing and meals.
We are honored to continue our work in Ukraine, made possible by our many generous and compassionate donors. Together we save lives and restore hope.
