Jewish Relief Network Ukraine joins others from around the world in mourning the recent passing of Rabbi Moshe Hauer, Executive Vice President of the Orthodox Union (OU), at his home in Baltimore, Maryland; he was 64 years old.
Rabbi Hauer served as Senior Rabbi of Bnai Jacob Shaarei Zion Congregation in Baltimore for 26 years, where he was known as a compassionate leader, especially dedicated to at-risk youth. He joined the Orthodox Union in 2020, where he helped shape the OU’s global outreach. In recent years, Rabbi Hauer played a vital role in organizing and supporting substantial aid for the Jews of Ukraine, including the delivery of food, generators, and essential supplies to communities very much in need. “Rabbi Hauer acted with genuine care, a broad heart, and a shining countenance,” said Rabbi Shlomo Peles, Executive Director of Jewish Relief Network Ukraine. “He was in constant contact, always seeking ways to help and support the people. His passing is a tremendous loss to the Jewish people.”
We are saddened by the loss of a trusted partner, a true friend, and a passionate advocate for Jewish life in Ukraine and throughout Eastern Europe; may his memory be a blessing for years to come.
