Ukrainian mothers face immense challenges during the ongoing war, especially in regions near the front lines. Mothers take on multiple roles as caregivers and breadwinners, while often feeling helpless to protect their children. Despite these challenges, Ukrainian mothers demonstrate incredible resilience and strength, fighting for the survival of their families.
Many mothers have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind their extended families, friends, and communities. With fathers at the front lines, mothers are often left to raise their children alone, with limited financial means. The three-year-old crisis has caused widespread economic disruption, making it difficult for mothers to provide for their families.
Air raids and shelling pose constant threats to mothers and their children, forcing them to seek shelter in basements or other locations. Frequent and extended power outages leave them in the cold and dark. And mothers often struggle to access basic necessities like food, water, and medicine, as well as medical care and psychological support. Mothers are providing emotional support to their children, helping them cope with the stress and trauma of the war, despite their own fears and challenges.
Mothers are seeking assistance from friends, family, and community organizations to cope with the war. They are exhausted from three years of stress, anxiety, fear, and loneliness. The leaders, staff, and volunteers of JRNU are honored to provide extensive support to address physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of mothers and their families. We are looking forward to summer camps for kids and their parents, to provide a much needed respite from the ongoing crisis and allow them to rejuvenate and reconnect.
We salute the strong women who persevere and raise the next generation of the Jewish community in Ukraine.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
