Early Sunday morning, dozens of missiles hit Kyiv and the surrounding region causing major damage in just one hour; it was one of the largest strikes since the crisis began. Tragically, at least one person died and fifteen others were injured. More air strikes came in a second wave of attacks later in the morning.
As a result of the large-scale air raid, fires broke out across the city, in an apartment building, private homes, a supermarket, warehouses and office buildings; parked cars nearby were also drawn into the blazes.
A three-story building in the central district was the site of a major fire; rescuers saved several people trapped inside, and they also recovered a body.
In one of the subway stations where residents sought refuge, a ceiling in the ground-floor hallway collapsed; fortunately, everyone was able to escape, and the station is now temporarily closed.
Sunday morning brought tragedy to other parts of the country as well. Three people were killed in the Northeastern part of Ukraine, in the Kharkiv region. The massive attacks yesterday morning came just one day after strikes killed five people and wounded 20 others.
We continue to hope and pray for an end to the crisis. Our staff and volunteers are in constant contact with community leaders and residents, giving aid and support. Recently we completed another large-scale food distribution campaign, providing thousands of packages to grateful families. Together we save lives and restore hope.
