Large Wedding Event Held in Kyiv: 92-Year Old Couple Tie the Knot

MAY 11TH 2026

Amid the relative calm in Ukraine following the temporary ceasefire that went into effect over the weekend, a large Jewish wedding event was held in Kyiv. The event, which took place at the Beit Menachem Jewish Community (JCC), involved several couples exchanging vows, some relatively young and others quite elderly, including a 92-year-old bride and groom.

Several of the couples had been living together for many years, but only now, after a prolonged period of war, with continuity uncertainty about the future, have they decided to formalize their relationships in accord with Jewish traditions.

The special event attracted entire families - children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren - with several generations standing together around the chuppah. Local media outlets also came to cover the unusual event, which aroused great interest in the city:

“To see a 92-year-old couple standing beneath the chuppah is something truly extraordinary,” said Chief Rabbi of Kyiv, Yonatan Markovich. “It reflects the deep yearning of Jews to remain connected to their heritage and traditions, even during such difficult times,” he continued. "We have been living for a long time in a reality of war and uncertainty. Precisely now, when a little peace has been allowed, people choose to stop and say: ‘we are continuing the chain of generations, preserving tradition and building a Jewish home,’” the Rabbi noted.

It is inspiring to watch the people of Ukraine continue to find meaning and joy in life despite the ongoing hardships and challenges. Together we save lives and restore hope.
