We recognize and honor the citizens of Ukraine who continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience and determination in caring for themselves and others.
We appreciate the thousands of members of the Jewish community who find a way to give of themselves, even as they face myriad daily challenges of their own. Grandparents like Inna who is raising her grandson Maxim on her own, providing for his every need and showering him with love. Maxim, who is entering the 4th grade next week, is a kind, diligent, and well-mannered boy who loves to learn. Inna was overwhelmed with gratitude for the financial assistance we provided her to ensure Maxim had school uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and everything he needed to start the new year.
“A new backpack may seem like a small thing, but for a child in need it can represent a fresh beginning and the feeling that someone cares and is thinking about them,” says Rabbi Simcha Levenharts of JRNU. He continued: “Our goal goes far beyond preparing children for the first day of school. Together with our network of support and communities, we look at the needs of the entire family and provide ongoing support so that every Jewish child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a healthy and independent future.”
We also appreciate the senior citizens like Dmytro, in Khmelnytskyi, who inspires others with his optimism and faith, despite personal difficulties. His life is far from easy, living alone after his son and daughter-in-law moved to Israel, with serious medical challenges and limited financial means. This past year Dmytro nearly suffered a complete loss of vision due to cataracts and glaucoma. A surgical operation provided only limited relief; more complex and costly surgery is needed. It is an honor and privilege to help Dmytro with his medical expenses as well as daily needs.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
