Almost half of Ukrainian senior citizens live on less than $100 per month (4,000 hryvnia). They can't afford even food and other essential items. Many young families in Ukraine face similar financial constraints, forcing them to choose between providing their children with adequate nutrition and needed medical care. As a result, special needs children do not receive services they desperately need, such as speech- and physical therapy.
For the past three years we have provided lifelines to thousands of people across Ukraine, distributing food and other daily necessities, as well as arranging for medical and mental health care.
It was wonderful to see smiles on the faces of children during the Shavuot holiday, licking ice cream cones and enjoying other treats. With the arrival of summer, we are preparing to send children to camp (we expect 2,000 or more participants) where they will enjoy outdoor activities, bond with their peers, and get a much needed break from the ongoing crisis. Counselors and mental health professionals will conduct individual and group sessions to address trauma and other issues.
As the tragic situation in Ukraine continues, so does our commitment to ensure no one is left behind and no one is forgotten. Our leaders, staff, and volunteers work tirelessly to meet the needs of the Jewish communities. From Dnipro to Zhytomyr and from Lviv to Odessa. Together we save lives and restore hope.
