Helping People in Zhitomir, Mykolaiv, and Beyond

FEBRUARY 2ND 2026

Below are the stories of just a few of the thousands of people we help each and every day thanks to our generous and gracious donors.

Viktoria

The past six months have been a true ordeal for Viktoria. Her chronic medical conditions required many doctor appointments, depleting her strength and finances. Then an acute problem presented and she had to undergo emergency surgery. Thanks to the immediate response, Viktoria is expected to make a full recovery, under careful monitoring by medical professionals. Continuous care is required and additional medical procedures might be needed in the future, but in the meantime, she is getting stronger each day and beginning to return to a more normal daily routine. We provided Viktoria and her family financial support to ensure she could afford the care she desperately needed.

Tetiana

Tetiana has been a lifeline for the Mykolaiv Jewish community for years, generously volunteering her time to help and support others. Recently she was in need herself, as her family faced dire circumstances: the plumbing inside their home stopped working making it impossible to bathe or cook. The frigid temperatures outside further complicated the situation. We were able to provide Tetiana the help she needed to remediate the situation at home, allowing her to return to the work she loves, helping others in the Mykolaiv Jewish community.

Senior Citizens in Zhitomir and Mykolaiv

Our soup kitchens around the country have provided critical support for the elderly, particularly during the ongoing and prolonged power outages. For many senior citizens, the only warm meals they get are at our community centers and synagogue. In addition to nourishment for their bodies, the visitors receive emotional support from the staff and volunteers, and also their peers, through engaging conversation and words of encouragement.

In Zhitomir and Mykolaiv, cities that are worlds apart in terms of their history and character, the residents share an amazing resilience, determination, and refusal to give up. It is an honor and privilege to allow them the simple pleasure of sharing bowl of warm soup amongst their friends.

Together we save lives and restore hope.
