Feeding The Elderly In Ukraine This Winter

NOVEMBER 16TH 2025

In Poltava, Sumy, Kherson, and Khmelnytskyi, the cold winter weather has arrived, posing new challenges for the elderly and infirm. And sadly, they are not the only people in need of aid. Our food assistance programs are critical to many others who lack the resources to provide sufficient nourishment for their families and themselves.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the staff and volunteers at JRNU, thousands of people across Ukraine receive hot meals, including tasty soups, and hearty main dishes. Some of the volunteers start cooking early in the morning, while others carefully pack each meal. Another team handles logistics, coordinating procurement of the ingredients and delivery of the prepared meals. Finally, a group of volunteers greet those who come to seek our assistance, offering words of encouragement and care.

This daily work that is required to maintain our meals program is immense, and is a complete team effort, from those who purchase the food items to those who place it on the bedside of a senior citizen. We are grateful to the volunteers, staff, and donors who make it possible for thousands of people across Ukraine to receive a warm meal, emotional support, and spiritual uplifting. Together we save lives and restore hope.
