Despite Substantial Damage, the School Year Ends Safely in Odessa

JUNE 29TH 2026

Students at the Mishpacha Orphanage in Odessa ended the school year with the ringing of the “Last Bell.” Sadly, the ceremony could not be held in the school courtyard this year due to the substantial damage sustained in the April 29th drone attack on the city that wounded 18 people.

The annual event was held in a nearby safe location and was attended by several distinguished guests including Israeli ambassador Michael Brodsky, British Lord Henry Byron Davies, and German Ambassador Heiko Thoms.

"Our hearts ache to see the destruction [at the school], but we are comforted by the world’s warm embrace,” said Mrs. Chaya Wolff who has run the orphanage for many years, along with her husband, the Chief Rabbi of Odessa, Avraham Wolff.

The students will enjoy several months of summer vacation before returning to school in the fall. Many of the kids will attend day or overnight camps sponsored by JRNU where they will escape the stress and trauma of the ongoing crisis. Together we save lives and restore hope.
