“Thank G-d for His goodness which endures forever. By miracle of miracles we are alive!!! We were on our way to Kherson about a kilometer and a half before the military checkpoint at the entrance to the city when a suicide drone exploded over us. My wife Chaya and my daughter Rayzi are healthy and safe!!! Thank you G-d for the gift of life you gave to us.”
Yosef Yitzchak Wolff, Chief Rabbi of Kherson, described the harrowing experience when the Toyota Land Cruiser he was driving with his family was nearly destroyed in an attack. A few minutes after the incident, police forces arrived at the scene.
His brother, Rabbi Avraham Wolff, Chief Rabbi of Odessa and Southern Ukraine, said:
“This event adds to the challenging reality in which we have been working in Ukraine for over three years of war. The roads are not easy, the conditions are complex, and yet we continue our sacred work every day. We thank G-d for His protection and the lives that have been saved.”
While the lives of the Wolff family were spared, sadly two people in the region were killed; a man and a woman.
Despite the near-death experience, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Wolff says he has no intention of leaving. “Kherson is our home,” he declared. “We are here to bring strength, faith, and hope to our community — no matter what.”
We are grateful for miracles big and small, and we pray for an end to the ongoing tragedies. Together we save lives and restore hope.
