This weekend in Ukraine, thousands of Jews attended services in observance of Rosh Hashanah, and they celebrated at festive meals with friends and family. But tragically, the attacks continued, killing nine people and injuring dozens of others, and also damaging buildings and critical infrastructure. These casualties contribute to the sharply rising death toll over the past two months.
Nearly 500 drones targeted Ukraine on Friday night and early Saturday. In Zhytomyr a strike on a grocery store killed two people, and in Odessa 37 people, including an infant, were injured; two people are missing.
These latest attacks come as the country is racing to prepare for the challenges of the upcoming cold weather, as the damage to infrastructure and key export industries compound a deepening budget crisis.
