Babyn Yar: 84 Years Later Names Are Added To The List Of Victims

OCTOBER 3RD 2025

Babyn Yar, a ravine in the Ukrainian capital, is the site of one of the bloodiest massacres of World War II.

Monday, September 29th, marked the 84th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy, in which Nazis murdered more than 33,000 Jews in two days. In a solemn ceremony coordinated by the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center (BYHMC) and held at the massacre site in Kyiv, the names of 1,031 newly discovered victims were read and the Jewish Kaddish memorial prayer was recited.

BYHMC’s database contains 29,671 names of victims as young as nine months old and as old as 102. Each year ceremonies are held at Babyn Yar and other sites around the world, to commemorate the terrible events that occurred.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ukraine as they continue to endure difficult conditions in their daily lives. We are grateful for the tireless work and great generosity of everyone helping to make a positive difference. Together we save lives and restore hope.
